What is moodle? 

Moodle is a project that is focused on giving educators the best chance to promote learning. Almost everybody can use it: 

• Primary and secondary school can access to moodle
• Full-on courses can be found on moodle 
• There are also forums and databases 
• Some use moodle to teach their subjects and others use it to deliver content 

 

Interesting facts:

• The most important fact is that moodle is free to download!
• There are 220 countries that use moodle. 
• There are 60,417,573 moodle users. 
• After the United States, Spain is the second country with the most registrations; here is map.

Moodle at ASB:

Here at ASB almost everybody uses moodle! Teachers post projects, homework, due dates or even grades and students check it all out from their own homes. 

Adding to this, moodle is easy to use and has a very simple look to learn how to use very quickly. 

Below you can see a screenshot of our own moodle page in Technology 10. As you can see you have a practical calendar, videos, text and various links! Moodle at ASB is great!

All about GIMP

WHAT IS GIMP?

GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is an image retouching and editing tool and is released under the GPLv3 license asfree and open-source software. There are versions of GIMP tailored for most operating systems including Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

• and more specialised tasks.

All about OSI

What is OSI? 

OSI stands for Open Source Initiative. Below is a brief explanation about what it is, some images, and links to the programs that are included. Open Source normally refers to a program that has it's code open to the public to download or modify it for free. The changes made can be shared with the community. 

How can a program be OSI Certified?

In order to be OSI Certified, programs have to meet the following criteria: 

• • The author or holder of the license of the source code cannot collect royalties on the distribution of the program
  • 
    
• The distributed program must make the source code accessible to the user
  
• The author must allow modifications and derivations of the work under the program's original name
  
• No person, group or field of endeavor can be denied access to the program
  
• The rights attached to the program must not depend on the program's being part of a particular software distribution
  
• The licensed software cannot place restrictions on other software that is distributed with it.

1st Trimester Summary

During this trimester in Technology we studied lots of interesting subjects and learned many exciting things! Here we have a brief summary of all the great things we did:

• Blog editing
• What is moodle 
• How to create a form in google docs 
• How to create graphs in google docs 
• All about QRs

BLOG EDITING:

I am posting this on a blog so I think that it is good proof of how I have learned to use blogs. We use Blogger.com and post wonderful blogs full of images, audio files and others! 

What is moodle? 

We have studied moodle not only as a webpage we use at school but as a webpage you download for free and can edit. We have also learned that it is Web 2 and not Web 1 so you can edit and exchange info on the web instead of downloading it. 

Forms in google docs:

We have created a survey about web browser with google docs for our classmates. We have learned how to do a form with one or more possible answers for each question and how to share it with others. We have also learned how to check the answers and see what and how many people have answered. 

Graphs and spreadsheets in google docs:
After collecting the answers of our surveys we have tabulated them on a google docs spreadsheet and organized them adecuately. We have also learned how to do graphs for the information that was collected. 

QRs:
Some of us, for extra credit, have downloaded a QR app in our mobile phones. We have then scanned them (there was one for each grade) and talked about them and discussed their positive aspects on a forum in moodle. 

This trimester was great!
